Critical Stilts 2009

Here I am trying to get critical stilts at BM going this year.
If you are interested there are discussions on going at:

http://criticalstilts.tribe.net/thread/ca889338-513e-440c-8079-c17f3eb76009
http://eplaya.burningman.com/posting.php

Right now I am thinking 4pm Thursday. I would love to meet at a Stilt bar and then walk to centre camp.
* Where is Red Nose this year?
* While you have a stilt bar?
* Can we meet there?
Suggestions? I want to decide and put it in the WWW this weekend.
Thanks!

LA Weekly review of Opening Night

"Cirque Berzerk's Beneath, which opened last night at Los Angeles State Historic Park, is a trip through an afterlife that merges influences of Burning Man (where the troupe initially formed), Weimar-era Berlin and industrial nightclubs while mixing the big top and ring of the traditional circus with the emphasis on live music, dance and acrobatics found at Cirque du Soleil. In this cabaret-styled netherworld, daring-doers in life must now spend eternity performing beautifully terrifying feats from trapezes, trampolines, balancing boards and even scarves suspended from the ceiling."

Create:Fixate Presents “Build”
Exploring Art, Architecture, and Design
Saturday, June 27, 2009

“Build” is a theme exploring the visual architecture of life and how it moves you.

On Saturday, June 27th, emerging and established visual artists and musicians will create a collective definition for build (v.) to develop or give form according to a plan or process; create: to make something by combining materials or parts.

Create:Fixate’s artists have been engaged in the construction and design of this landscape, a space full of sound and structure that we trust will engage you in an exhilarating experience. In turn, as the audience, we welcome you to “build” on our shapes and definitions with your own perceptions. Each structure ventured upon has a certain push or pull that helps to define who we are in the world. So, join us in our visual and aural journey.

CB Returns to LA Starting June 18

Recurs every Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun, June 18, 2009 - July 5, 2009
one performance each Thursday at 8:30pm, two shows Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 and 10:00pm and two shows every Sunday at 5:00pm and 8:00pm
Los Angeles State Historic Park

http://www.cirqueberzerk.com for more info and tickets

Cirque Berzerk promises an even more twisted big top experience than ever before, adding several new acts under an even bigger big top. Instead of typical circus fare emphasizing live animal acts and wholesome family fun, Cirque Berzerk features jaw-dropping acrobatics, stunning male and female aerialists, sexy, fiery burlesque dancers, gothic stilt walkers, punk rock clowns, and psychedelic vaudevillian tomfoolery.

Revelers are encouraged to arrive early before the show to dine (and drink) picnic-style around the big top - bring your own or purchase dinner on-site. Also, after the nightly performances, the audience is invited to join the Cirque Berzerk circus troupe and enjoy a live performance by VAUD & THE VILLAINS at the nightly post-show party held in "The Berzerk Lounge," a club- like atmosphere adjacent to the big top.

See our website for additional details and tickets: http://www.cirqueberzerk.com

To everyone involved in Cirque - Thanks for making my trip into town much more pleasant; every time I pass the cornfield, I think of you...

See, I am not a morning person. I am grumpy, sleepy, and generally nonfunctional if I have to get up early. Today, I had to get up and get downtown , and I was not happy about it.

Then I got on the gold line, and as I was approaching Chinatown Station, I happened to look out the left side, and passing the park brought up all these happy memories of the fun I had with you, and it brings a smile to my grumpy, sleepy little face. Thanks so much!

We had the pleasure of attending Friday night's performance, and had a great time! It was really cool to see how all of you guys have taken your show to the next level. I like how you are pushing the aesthetics and style into something new while still tipping your hat to traditional circus arts.

Plus I was happy to see the good use of LA's public spaces, in the shadows of downtown and dodger stadium.

Dinga dinga, dinga. Dinga!
Big Top Magazine wants you, needs you, loves you! Chosen “Best Local Web Zine” of 2008 by the SF Bay Guardian (& you – thank you!) after only being launched three months ago, & wants to promote your business, and reward you for letting us do it!
As a huge thank you, until *this* Thursday evening 8/7/08, receive two FREE tickets to its first event, REVOLUTION! (up to a $40 value, not including the immense fun you’ll have at the show) for any advertising space purchased at a value of $150 or more! The magazine is skyrocketing as well as the visits to it, and so this is the absolute best time to get in and let people know about *your* business or services!

Additionally, I plan on doing an issue directly from Burning Man centering on the performers in my camp, The Red Nose District – but I need your help to make it there and achieve this vision – so it’s an incredible win-win thang! You get very visible advertising for what you work so hard for, and what I work so hard for is able to improve for everybody! At the time of this writing, the site has been viewed 2,671 times by 55 countries/territories (including all but 4 states in the U.S. – obviously red ones…) since it’s launch in May, and I’m just getting started! YOUR business can reach out to the world through Big Top!

For more information on advertising benefits & rates, please visit http://bigtopmagazine.com/Advertising/advertise.html and for more information on Big Top Magazine’s first production, visit http://bigtopmagazine.com/revolution.html

Thank you all so much for your continued support, and making Big Top the “Best Of The Bay”!
Hurry now – time is running out for those free tickets – and hey, if you have a friend who you think should advertise with Big Top, forward this to them – hell, forward it everywhere, the New Circus needs you, & so do I!

Big Top Love,

~ kSea

For more info on what Red Nose has in store for you this year, visit http://www.rednosedistrict.org/ We look forward to seeing you there!

We would like to receive a bio about them and why they would be a good judge. Entrants will be scored on technicality, form, costuming, stage presence, originality, musical accompaniment, and professionalism. Judges will not be allowed to perform in categories they will be judging.

My dear Berzerkers,

I am so proud of you all. What a magnificent, luminous, glittering gem of an evening.

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing a CB show since the Playa in 2006. From the first song, I was blown away by how far you'd come.

While the Burners can be a persnickety crowd unto themselves, it's another game entirely to open up your gig to the whole world. So congratulations on one hell of a coming-out party.

Can't wait to rock your ticket booth again tomorrow. ;-)

xoxo > Dodge

We are turning this large tented space into a dream Victorian home for lush lounging, chilling, entertaining and more.

as this tribe is somewhat L.A.-centric, but AFTER you go see Beneath, come on up to San Francisco and enjoy REVOLUTION!

BigTopMagazine.com just wasn't satisfied to be only two dimensional, so it's jumped a dimension and is proudly bringing you its first production, evah!

First, dig the lovely pieces on Cirque Berzerk & The Wandering Marionettes, two of the wonderful groups that helped this magazine be created, the rush to the Events page, purchase your tix for Beneath, then come on up to San Francisco (if you aren't already here) to see REVOLUTION! - and trust me, you will most certainly want to get your tickets in advance for this show, like ASAP, ya dig?

Find out about both at www.bigtopmagazine.com - and I'm not telling you exactly where because it tastes better when your circusSalivary glands are yearning, but I trust that you might be intelligent enough to find them. In the meantime, please enjoy the rest of the site, and the conversations with these deliciously amazing people. I've left the pieces on Cirque Berzerk & The Wandering Marionettes up so you can find out more about them - and because I adore them. You should too.

GO SEE BENEATH! (please - for me - as I just took on another project which will probably prevent me from seeing it, but might be justified by the rag I am creating for "That Thing in the Desert" this year...

And if you're in the Bay Area, I suggest you purchase your tickets *now* for REVOLUTION!.

Biggy Top Love,

~ kSea

I'm going to Burning Man with my 2 year old. We've adopted a golf cart which is turned into a Fly. The Fly is pretty much built and the engine is in great working order (recently repaired by Sierra Golf Carts in Reno). What I need help with is attaching and powering lights and sound to my Fly. I basically am looking for a loving Burner to help me put it together on the Playa or even in Reno the day before. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? We would be very appreciative and could repay you in food and beer or ??? Call Tammy at 323-547-1649 or e-mail me at tammy@globetrekkertv.com.

I'm also looking to use, rent, buy a trailer to tow in my Fly. I live in LA and if there's someone down here who has one it would be for rent or use. If it's someone in Reno, I would probably just need to buy it in order to tow my other golf cart back to LA. Anyone?

Vau de Vire and Cirque Berzerk at the Electric Daisy Carnival

See the photos here: http://www.theblight.net/08/edc

Vau de Vire Society, Gooferman and Fou Fou Ha!, joined by our darling friends Cirque Berzerk and the Wandering Marionettes, were brought in to perform at the Electric Daisy Carnival in downtown Los Angeles. We had been warned: it was candy raver central, with music so loud it hurt. I thought that demographic had died a decade ago, but alas: a bastion of plush rainbowbright remains amongst the fifteen-year-olds in the arid southron lands of this fair state. Who knew?

For those who aren’t familiar with the term, please see Wikipedia’s candy raver entry -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy_raver . Know that we hid in performer areas as much as possible and no, I took no photos of them (potential legality issues aside (plus, if their mothers saw what they were wearing…)).

Our wonderfully crazy friends can no longer go to the Thievery Corp / Seu Jorge concert tomorrow night so we have two extra tickets (link below). In the spirit of giving we are willing to donate them to two fun / chill people in the area (preferably Westsiders like ourselves - we live in Venice) that would like to join us in the festivities. We are both adventuresome and eclectic professionals. Drop me a line if you interested. Any humorous and personally informative responses would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great weekend.

I had a really wonderful time, again, at LIB. It proves every year to deliver and it just gets better and better!! Lots of silliness and so much dancing. I always walk away from this event with hope and inspiration. To everyone involved with putting together this amazing event, thank you for all your hard work and dedication.
To my circus family, thank you for your support and inspiration. Performing for the first time in almost 8 months was a bit scary but I had some good pep talks and it all went really well, it was the perfect place to start again. Viva la Cirque Berzerk!
And to my friends that love me no matter what, give me the best hugs, best talks, beats to move to... Thank you!!

Hey all,

Some friends of mine are coming in from Austin with their traveling freak show! The show is called the 999 Eyes Freak Show and That Damned Band! I work DPW with three of the people in the show and I'm all about supporting them as they make their way around the country. They'll be playing at Safari Sam's in Hollywood on March 23rd (Sunday) at 7pm.

Here's the bio from their website:
"Thee 999 EYES vaudevillian freakshow is the last genuine traveling freakshow in the United States - or the first in over 40 years to feature more than three LIVING HUMAN ODDITIES such as the half woman, the dancing dwarf, lobster girl, the Black Scorpion (our very own lobster boy). The 999 EYES authentic human oddities freakshow tours an authentic oddities museum, Lowrent the clown, and a dark carnival jug band -That Damned Band."

And here's the website: www.999eyes.com/

See ya there

Does anyone know who is that amazing hooper who performed at BM 07?
She had this crazy intoxicating "drunken-style" hooping I've never seen before, where she'd stumble like the hoop was falling but it never did, she'd pull it off and on her body so fluidly, every move was perfect.

Does she have a website or a Tribe?

Hello-

A friend of mine was a mermaid in a bathtub in a Cirque Berzerk event at Abundant Sugar in 2005. I have only a small, low quality photo of her, and would love to find some better pictures for her as a surprise.

Would anyone who was there happen to have taken some pictures of her?

Thanks!
The Circus is taking over the San Francisco Streets!

The Carnival Takes Over The San Francisco Streets!

Ahhh yes, my beautiful family – it is happening!
An idea bred in our dear Douglas’s noggin’ for the opportunity to take some pretty pictures of beautiful people in interesting settings (or vice versa vice, vice vice versa, any way you want it) this Saturday, December 22nd we gather and call the streets ours!

This is a time of celebration, so let’s make this Solstice, the darkest day of the year, shine with colors that only those of the Circus wear – let’s friggin’ BLIND the confused passerby with our beauty, shed our own light, dark, odds and delicious ends, and create an exquisite mayhem!

This is purely Doug’s idea, but I think I’ll throw a bit more delicious magick into it, as this opportunity is far too good to pass up, and for some reason, the guy has given me free reign for the gathering of people… and I’ve decided that it’s time to shake some dust!

We’re making this an event.

This will be purely a playtime, joined by members of our dear friends and family (and Top Royalty of the San Francisco Circus Scene) VAU de VIRE SOCIETY & GOOFERMAN, so get your sweet, twisted asses in gear and come play with us. We’ll be doing what we do and looking our best, roaming the streets and finding various San Francisco scenes to play on and around, titillating the innocent passerby, and letting *them* shoose what kind of dreams they want to go home with. We won’t be cooped up in a club or ruled by the laws they need to abide by, not constricted by the limitations in the corporate world – this is OUR FUCKING DAY!

Let’s face it – the goddamn bunnies (gods, I loathe bunnies) have theirs, the Santa’s have theirs, the pirates, zombies, Pee Wee’s – the list goes on. Well, my dear, dear beautiful Circus Family, THIS will be ours. You know as much as I do how needed it is, and it’s far past due. (If it were a library book, we’d be fucked.)

The route for this Saturday is still being figured out by Doug, but the meeting place for this first year will be the Xenodrome, on 26th and Portrero in San Francisco.

The actual day it happens in the future will very likely change to a warmer one later, but this is the first, annual or whenever we feel like it, and like the Carnival, it could show up anywhere, anytime.

Please come this Saturday - to the very first of many - CARNIVALIA!

We will be thrilled to see you!

*** Doors, preparation and PHOTOS at Xenodrome - 9:00am, with Douglass & possibly Nightshade shooting pictures in our beautiful sets.

***Leaving Xenodrome at 11:30am, as sharp as we can get it!

The route is at this point a secret (even to us) and at times even might be decided by consulting the Oracles, so get your asses there by the time we leave, okay?

*Dress in your circus best, but dress warm – the weather is supposed to be a bit chilly, but no rain.

>>>Added Bonus for this day! <<<
After Carnivalia, our dear friend Mark Growden is playing at 12 Galaxies for a Solstice Celebration with Tobias, The Nekyia, & others!

Fire Performers PLEASE READ - Wed. Town Hall Meeting

Hello!
please repost this to any fire performers you know, There are some important
issues facing the fire community, and we need to get the word out quick, and
there is an important Town Hall meeting wednesday.

In addition, there is a new discussion list for fire performers to discuss tips,
community interests, events, and more at:

http://www.curiousjosh.com/lafire

please sign up, more information about the list is below.

----
*Subject*: Town Hall Meeting: A Call to Arms for all Los Angeles Based Fire
Artists

*Where*: Smash Labs, 1714 Albion St, Los Angeles, CA 90031 323-227-6274

*When*: Doors open at 7pm Meeting begins at 8pm

*Who*: All members of the Los Angeles Based Fire Arts Community

*Why*: During recent interactions with Los Angeles County and State _Fire
Marshalls <http://www.film.ca.gov/LocationResources/FilmSafety.html>_we have
learned that they are in the process of designing a set of safety standards
and guidelines in an effort to standardize safety requirements within our
industry. These safety guidelines are to be implemented in the first
quarter of 2008.

We have the great fortune that our local county Fire Marshalls have
offered to allow us participate in the design of these standards.
Organizations such as the Safety Advisory for Fire and FX in Entertainment
(SAFFE)and members of the Pyrotechnics community have offered to provide
guidance or advice in the different methods of organizing ourselves and
interfacing with regulatory and enforcement entities such as the Fire
Department.

This *_Wednesday, December 12, 2007_* a Town Hall Meeting has been called to
inform the community and discuss the formation an organization comprised of
members representing the interests of the Los Angeles fire community.

******It is time for us all to come together, as a community - to openly
create our own guidelines that address issues, such as safety, performance
standards, etc. It is of the utmost importance that we collectively decide
this before it is decided for us*****

In Addition, there is a new e-mail discussion list for
fire artists and people who are interested in fire performance in the Los
Angeles area. This list can be joined by following this link:

http://www.curiousjosh.com/lafire

This list is an opportunity for us to stay in touch as a community, and
discuss a number of pressing issues that are affecting the Los Angeles fire
community such as the upcoming implementation of safety regulations,
standards, and restrictions governing our industry.

The LA Fire mailing list will be a great place to:
discuss issues affecting the fire community
share fire related tips and techniques
communicate about fire events in the LA area
and more

Please spread the word by continuing to forward this to fire performers who
are in Los Angeles, or who visit Los Angeles and perform with fire. If we
fail in this initiative then viewpoints such as "Poi is the most dangerous
tool in your arsenal" or the potential banning of poi spinning in the
direction of the audience may become a reality.

Troupes & Tool Manufacturers that have involvement in this initiative have
included: CuriousJosh, Fire Drums, Fire Groove, Los Angeles Fire Effects (LAFX),
Machina
Candeo, Mutaytor, Phoenix Projekt, Pyrophernalia / Om Fire, Sirena
Serpentina, Trick Concepts, & Volcano Flux.

*_Directions:
_*
SmashLabs
1714 Albion Street (entrance is here - big red door with cut metal numbers -
push down on the lever to enter)
The "back" door is a big roll door in the last parking lot on the North side
of Main just before the train tracks - look for the La Mano Press sign. If
it's full, there is an empty lot directly across the street on the South
side of Main Street, or feel free to park on Main or Albion and come in the
front. *main thing to remember is if you've gone over the tracks, you've
passed Albion which is a TINY street and easy to miss.

*GoogleMaps:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1714+Albion+St,+Los+Angeles,+CA+90031,+USA&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=addr&om=1

*
1714 Albion St,
Los Angeles, CA 90031 - it's the triangular space that starts on Main and
back up on Albion
323-22S-MASH (323-227-6274) is the office phone which I'll have on me in
case anyone gets lost.

*
"There are risks and costs to a program of action. But they are far less
than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction."
-John F. Kennedy (1917 - 1963)*

I passed out on friday night and received emergency medical attention - did you see me????

I was having a blissed out time at the Cirque on friday night digging Mycho Cocoa... then I got dizzy and stumbled outside. I was on "G.."
After that I only remember a guy's face telling me he was "just trying to help me." and then later a paramedic telling me the
same thing. The next morning I awoke in a hospital in Sparks attached to more medical machines than I knew existed.
By mid saturday I was released with no clothes, money or id and hitched it back to the playa just in time to see the man burn.
Of course I know that I am profoundly lucky and I am very grateful but I was hoping that someone might remember seeing me
and can tell me what they remember seeing. I had my favorite bowler hat and long black coat with a red star on it ... left at the
cirque and y'all can have those as my gift of love and thanks. I DID feel the love that night and I am forever grateful that
when I keel over way the fuck out on the playa there are people who take it upon themselves to help. Thank you cirque berserk!!!!
yours,
John Doe (thats what my new wrist band says and is my new playa name)

The Math of Burning Man...

In case others of you hadn't seen this - I wrote this one year after I had gotten back from Burning Man and someone came up to me and asked me...

"So...did you see everything?"

--------------------------------------------------

Burning Man lasts 8 days...

30,000 people show up (...a Very conservative estimate. They think it was closer to 38,000 this year[2004])...

If 1/4 of those people brought something to show on the playa (...again, a Very conservative estimate) that makes:

7500 things for one individual to see during the course of the week

If you NEVER slept you'd have 11, 520 minutes to spend during the course of your time there. [11,520 min = (24 hours x 60 min = 1440 minutes x 8 days )]

If you focus 15 minutes on each thing you could get to, that would get you:

768 things you Could *Possibly* see...

IF you are like most humans and get maybe six hours of sleep a night, that leaves you with 8640 minutes of excursion / viewing time which works out to:

576 things you Could *Possibly* see...

*If* you get there on day One...*and* don't have other stuff to do...like eat...or drink...

This equation does not take in to account going to the bathroom either...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

...Or herding cats from one shiny thing to the next...or camp setup...or drinking...or...Anything Else...

So, if you feel like you missed something this year, you now have a theorum that tells you why...

I was wondering if any of you are video folks or know people that are crazy enough to bring out a descent video camera to the dust that is burning man - if so our litttle circus show is looking for someone that would be willing to come video tape our shows on the playa in the big top!
Thanks!

I plan on returning Monday. It would be great if you could help out with driving and some of the gas. I'll check posts to my profile late tonight and tomorrow so let me know about yourselves, and leave me your email or phone number. I'm camping in the Red Nose District. Cheers, Cowboy Logic

Good morning dreamlettes...
i've been awfully quiet on this here tribe latley...
the old ring master & i tied the knot in may under the big top - a cirkus wedding of EPIC proportions thanks to my family.. in all definitions of the word - and then had some world exploring to do in the far reached of asia - but were back and our clown shoes are a tip tap tappin' just thinking about our new show!

The playa departure date is drawing near and cirque berzerk is bringing a whole new show for your delights!
were rehearsing our little show like mad scientists in our la laboratories and we can't wait to lay it on y'all.

The Cirque berzerk big top will be in the infamous Red Nose district ....but when are the shows you ask!?

Wed - 10:30 pm
Fri - 10:00 pm

come a bit early to check out our SF friends fou fou ha
and stay after friday for stilt circus

Thursday night is going to off the hook with our favorite klown boenebo bringing you a circus metropolis night in the big top... these nights are just what it's about - right? right.

and if you want to have your ass shakin not stirred stop by for the fringe nights of bass thumpin' dj's

more details later......
stay tuned!
find once we get out there. And hey, we even have outriggers for
aerial acts - a ring on one side, a trapeze on the other.

now's your chance. Please email Linus at littlelinus@gmail.com.
You will rock! We will help.

We had a great fundraiser, by the way. Here are some pics. Stupendous

On MIND BOMBIN

I called the album "Mind Bombin" not because im blowin people minds. Its is an ode to my youth growing up on the streets of the UK as a Graffiti deviant and yet it reflects the shifts in my socio/spiritual political outlook as i made my way out of the streets to the west coast of America.

BOMBIN; A QUICK CRASH COURSE IN DEVIANCY.

"Bombin" is a term used to describe going out and painting illegaly on a wall, train or some other form of private property. Bombin is a kind of fugitive act, claiming your personal presence amongst a landscape dominated by control and ownership. My crew and i known locally as T.C.K. (The Creative Kings) would go out on early morning Bombin raids to paint our newly created artwork on some pristine wall. The rush and feeling of accomplishment was addictive (as was dodging police), pushing the boundaries and refusing to live under the rule of law. The word would spread and before too long other Graffiti artists would come and check your work, creating both notoriety and respect. I was amongst an underground network of renowned artists that included the likes of Goldie (the now Drum & Bass icon), Madtempa (TRS) and Desire (TWC) to name a few.
In hindsight being engaged in this form of subversive activity gave me chance to look at and challenge the way our actions are governed and controlled. Most of us tend to simply accept these laws, unconsciously being given our prompts in life from a governing agent. Without challenging and in some cases breaking these laws we have no chance of discovering our own parameters as human beings and the full extent of our power. Our city streets, for example, the space some of us choose to inhabit, do not belong to us but those who govern us. We are in fact alienated from our own surroundings and our connection to time, place and earth. Individuality and personal presence are kept to a minimum in favour of efficiency and speed. The act of "Bombin" reclaims your space within the city and turns that which alienates and subjugates you into your freedom and your platform for expression.

MIND; DO YOU OWN YOURS?

Last year i went to hear a talk given by Chuck D, Public Enemys front man at Standford University. It was all great but one thing he said stood out to me.....

"Mind is the new Real estate of the 21st Century".

That stopped me dead in my tracks. Our attention is constantly being pulled at and fought for. Even if it for a split second if they have your attention they have you. Corporations and companies are constantly looking to set up shop in our minds with extensive media campaigns that play with subtle and not so subtle subconscious drives. In the same way that our physical space is controlled so too is our psychic space. In this type of environment i believe it is more important than ever to create autonomy over our own minds. The Mind is the last bastion of individual freedom, physical space being subjugated to the rule of law. But the more we let these influences into our minds and shape our behavior the more we surrender our sovereignty over ourselves.

This album for me is no different from those early morning bombin raids but instead of a pristine wall the territory instead is that of "Mass Mind", our collective psychic body, a landscape which is becoming more and more controlled by big business and less about the individual. Its definitely not about "blowin peoples minds" (i mean, please, im not that cheesy) but if it does that for you.....wicked. Its about the individual fugitive act of reclaiming personal power in the face of forces which do not want you to discover the fullest extent of your power, but to tap into it, siphon it off and redirect it. The mind when focused, empty (you try emptying your mind) and calm has no limits. You can do anything, make anything happen....truly......

.....but how deep does the rabbit hole go?

You all know and love this place. We have performed here and beautiful flowers were launched from here. Not to mention mad support and love to yours truely....Cirque Berzerk. So spread the word...This is an opportunity of a lifetime....

Chemistry is Everything!!

Abundant Sugar is losing it's XX chromosomes and we are radically out
of balance. We need balance!
KJ and Caylee are moving on to greener pastures, leaving spots open
to live at Abundant Sugar.

As many of you know, Abundant Sugar is an incredible artist loft
space dedicated to gracefully fostering and nurturing creative and
social energies to create a unique space that is safe, grounding and
empowering for those that pass through the space.

Communal in nature, it is a household first for those that live
there. It needs to provide a safe and stable place for the
inhabitants to be able to project the presence that we do. To that
end, we function as a family. Communication carries the day, trust is
paramount and chemistry is everything. We share a lot, help each
other and encourage each other to burn as brightly as we were meant
to. We are stronger as individuals because of our commitment to each
other.

In many ways, Abundant Sugar was modeled and refined after a
Burningman theme camp model, and it works. We open our doors to a
larger communal family that embraces what we aspire to do and
generates a powerful social structure and creative cross pollination
designed to make dreams come true. These people gather, share ideas
and join forces to create incredible magic. They also help maintain
and manage the place.

To live at Abundant Sugar calls for participation in the dream. Not a
passive place, it calls for one to choose life, and it delivers in
return. It is the perfect place for someone who wants to propel
themselves forward creatively. Through the interaction of the
community we support, the individual's potential is exponential. New
connections are made, opportunities offered, extraordinary life
experiences are manifested. All the resources of Abundant Sugar are
available too those that live there. We have a fully equipped tool
shop, a sprung dance floor with 22' ceilings and rehearsal mirrors, a
video projection theater, pa sound system, large kitchen, tons of
parking, tons of storage, private office space, internet, a dozen
sofas, acres of fun fur, -oh...and an awesome tree in the living room.

While the rent is not a lot by LA standards, and certainly not for
what is available at Abundant Sugar, it is imperative that those who
live here are able to support themselves, pay rent and not be an
additional drain on the place. The housemates pay the rent and
utilities. Money brought into the space by anyone else using or
renting the place goes into maintaining and improving the facility,
paying a weekly house cleaner, buying toilet paper and compact
flourescent light bulbs, etc. Rent is rent, just like anywhere else.
No big deal.

If this sounds like you, if you think you would like to live outside
the box then we encourage you to get in communication with us. We are
open to any conversation, including a couple (there is the
possibility of joining rooms into a suite).

Give us a shout.
